BREAKING NEWS: Former City Manager Eric Swansen is so nice, the City Council voted to fire him twice!  He will continue to draw his regular salary for nearly two months after the Council voted to fire him the first time.  Replacement resolutions were approved by Council on Monday July 27th, in order to complete what was not done correctly the first time.

"Like Watching A Train Wreck..."

On June 5, 2009, a letter to the editor appeared in the Daily Sun News comparing the Sunnyside City Council to both a train wreck and a circus being conducted at the same time.  The letter was sent just after the City Council fired former City Manager Eric Swansen, who had been on the job for less than a year.

"...Ludicrous At Best."

On June 24, 2009 a letter to the editor appeared from a Sunnyside native who described the current City Council's actions after firing the City Manager "ludicrous at best."  She went on to say: "I find it difficult to believe Sunnyside residents want to be represented in this way."

Friends of Sunnyside could not agree more!  Sunnyside deserves better government.

"...They Obviously Do Not Make Good Decisions..."

Yet another letter to the editor was published on June 17th in which the writer when speaking of the City Council stated "...they obviously do not make good decisions..."  That is certainly an understatement.  The City Council has yet to give citizens any idea how much it will cost to use interim services for all the key leaders that quit in protest of having to work for them.  They also have not projected the cost of searching for a new manager.  In fact, it appears that their chosen Interim City Manager is on the way out, and still more expense will be incurred on a new Interim City Manager!

How can the City function effectively when we have a revolving door of Interim and City Managers?!

"He was handed a ship that was sinking..."

The letters to the editor kept coming.  On June 17th, a citizen's letter was published saying that the City Manager was "..handed a ship that was sinking...".  Friends of Sunnyside agrees that things will continue to get worse with the current City Council at the helm.  It's time to change the leadership, and not just scapegoat the City Manager.  It can not be said enough:

Sunnyside deserves better government!

"City Council, What's Your Problem?"

Picture
A concerned citizen asked: "City Council, what's your problem?" in a letter to the editor published on June 10th.  The exasperated citizen suggested that the thing to do is to remove those on the Council.  We agree.

You deserve better government!

"...Sunnyside, the Northwest's Only Banana Republic..."

Picture
John Fannin, Senior Writer and Special Sections Editor for the Daily Sun News is no stranger to City Council chambers.  He has regulary covered City Council meetings in recent years, witnessing as a first hand observer the waste, inefficiency, and bad judgement of our current City Council; he compared them to a Banana Republic.

When writing of the numerous changes in key leadership staff positions, he said: "By comparison, the turnover at city hall makes junta-happy third world countries seem like bastions of stability."

It's time to stop the madness at City Hall, and restore sanity by electing new members to City Council!
